So…hi. You can call me Ash (hence, the Enter at A…)
I’m an equestrian. And I’m the only one in my family.
So hopefully everyday (and if not, at least a few times a week) I hope to share in my experiences of having to deal with my life-long passion for getting down and dirty with 1,000 pound creatures in a labor of love that no one else really seems to understand.
So to get things rolling, here is a brief post (b/c I’m off to go riding now) of what I have experienced today (and this is how the rest of the posts will read):
- In a household of non-horsey people, it is impossible to find warm ‘crappy’ clothes that everyone else wouldn’t mind getting mud and dirt and manure on.
Heavy “winter” clothes are generally more expensive than summer-y ones. So when Mom wants to go winter clothes shopping, the money usually goes to dressy clothes; the type you wear to school or work (as in office, not barn work). So I found myself this morning digging through the old cedar chest sifting through the old bulky (handmade) sweaters, turtlenecks, my step-dad’s button down shits and dress pants from the winter to wear to the barn on this raw and rainy day.
Lesson: Salvation Army is awesome.
I can easily relate about being the only equestrian! Such a relief to hear about someone who is doing it “alone”. Your right, I need to make more horsey friends too!haha Howrse has helped me pass the time while I’m not at the barn, stuck in the house with people that just don’t understand…wonder why I’m on the computer so much! It really is the best site! Just felt like I needed to post and get my little comment out there…
I can also relate to being the only equestrian – albeit a learner.
Trying to talk to my non-horsey friends about my lessons, or the horsey books I’m reading and it’s like I’m speaking a different language!
Hi Ashley, I found your site again – and consider yourself linked!
